40+ GOALS AND 11TH LEAGUE TROPHY

WHAT HAPPENED 2013/14?

Both Zlatan and PSG managed to improve their game even further, winning another league-title and Zlatan beating his Champions League goal-record (10) and the total number of goals in a season (41).

 

After the huge success the previous season, PSG still invested alot of money in Edinson Cavani and even though it may seem ridiculous, fans experienced some doubt and fear about how this Z-season would play out. Ancelotti left for Real Madrid, Laurent Blanc came in and with Monaco signing Falcao Ligue 1 felt stronger and more interesting in possibly ever.

 

DISPLAY OF PASSION

After winning the Super Cup (TROPHY 20) Z then didn't scored in the first 3 league games (last season he had already scored 4 at that time), the goal at home against Guingamp showed that Zlatan was not complacent, and that the pressure on him to score should stay high, his adrenaline goal-geisture home against Lorient indicated a firing Ibra, wanting to prove his quality to the world all over again.

 

11TH STRAIGHT LEAGUE TITLE

With Monaco investing in great players (Falcao, James later moved for a total of €135M), there was a rival for the league win. But 1-1 in both games was not enough for Monaco, PSG with an amazing Ibra and Cavani, Lucas, Lavezzi around him there was nothing to stop them (TROPHY 21). Zlatan scored 26 goals and had 14 assists. Officially J. Rodriguez won the Assist-table with 12 assists, Zlatan was wrongly only counted for 11 assists. It's uncertain if there were any additional assists to credit Rodriguez though.

 

CUP-TITLE

Strangely Zlatan hasn't won nearly as many cup-titles as league ones. So when PSG reached the league cup-final in February it was gonna be his first domestic final (except Super Cups) since the one he decided for Ajax all the way back in 2002. PSG won the final (TROPHY 22), sadly without Ibra who had gotten injured in an important game weeks before.

 

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE-DOMINANCE

This was Zlatan's best Champions League-season so far. Against Anderlecht in October he scored 4 goals with one super-shot and got a standing ovation from the home fans, and in the round of 16 he scored twice away against Leverkusen in an impressive 4-0-win. With a total of 10 goals even before the quarterfinal, he felt stronger than ever, was this the season it was gonna happen?

 

INJURY, MOURINHO-REUNION AND BLOODY ENGLAND AGAIN

PSG drew Chelsea in the quarterfinal. Mourinho was new manager and so, it was time for the 8th (!) time Zlatan played an English team in either round of 16 or quarterfinal. Winning 3-1 at home with a late wondergoal by Pastore everything should feel amazing BUT of course Zlatan got his thigh injured, which forced him to miss the away game, where Mourinho's Chelsea outplayed PSG and Zlatan, this time in the audience, once again had to congratulate an english team to advancing past him in the prestigous tournament.
