FAIRYTALE COMEBACK

WON THE LEAGUE WITH TWO GOALS IN THE LAST GAME AFTER BEING INJURED FOR TWO MONTHS

WHAT HAPPENED 2007/08?

A fairytale-season. With Ibra in amazing form in the fall, Inter won game after game after game, both in Serie A and Champions League. But when he got injured in March, Inter started losing points, letting Roma closer and on 18 May Inter had to beat Parma. Zlatan made his comeback after two months and Zlatan decided the league with two goals.


Zlatan Ibrahimović was now a proper football superstar. He was "Ibra" with entire Italy, his personality was well known and after winning yet another league and therefore consistently playing Champions League the name "Ibrahimović" now aired success, power and lethal striker.

 

IMPORTANCE

Because just like the season before, the team's stats when Z played and scored compared to when he didn't score are quite astounding. In the 14 games he scored (league and CL), Inter won 13 and drew 1. In the 20 games he didn't score, the result was 9W, 6D, 5L, the team was clearly dependant on him and Mancini focused all attacking play around him.

 

INTER STRUGGLING WITHOUT IBRA

The importance of Ibra became even clearer when he got injured in February and Inter immediately went three straight games without winning, giving a then distanced Roma the chance to get back in the race. Ibra came back but then got injured again and missed two months, seeing Roma battling Inter only points from each other all the way through.

 

FAIRYTALE COMEBACK IN THE RAIN OF PARMA

It all came down to the very last game, Inter had Parma away and it was very uncertain if Zlatan was fit to play, he hadn't played for two months. But so he did. And thank god for that. 0-0 in halftime had Roma the champions, Mancini brought on Zlatan in the rainy Parma. 11 minutes later he had scored. A great finish down to the left and all of a sudden Inter were champions (again). To avoid any unneccesary tension he also made it 2-0 15 minutes later, winning the Scudetto (TROPHY 9) for the fourth consecutive season, second in Inter.

 

1 POINT/GAME

Zlatan is almost as much about assists as he is about goals. He made som wonderful assists this season (see video below) and had a total of 10 in the league, making a total of 22 goals and 10 assists in 34 games, almost one point/game.

 

INDIVIDUAL AWARDS

Zlatan was given both the Best Player and Best Foreign Player of Serie A as well as being voted the 7th best player in the world in the yearly Ballon D'Or-award voting.
